Dermatology Services for Pets
When we think “allergies,” we often expect the clinical signs in our pet to be the same that we would experience: runny noses, headaches, sore throats, etc. Surprisingly, the signs of allergies in our pets are much different from the signs of allergies we see in ourselves. When our pets are allergic, their symptoms are often itchiness, rashes, ear infections, hot spots, and the like. While some veterinarians may prescribe a cortisone shot, the veterinary team at Bright Cross Animal Clinic is committed to getting to the root of the problem.
Allergy Treatments from Bright Cross Animal Clinic
When you bring your pet into our office for allergy treatment, Dr. Myburgh and his team begin by taking a thorough history of your pet’s condition and health. He examines the pet thoroughly to determine if there is a significance to the distribution of any lesions or sores on the skin.
The next step is conducting a series of “rule out” procedures that help us determine the causes of your pet’s allergy symptoms. We conduct work-ups equivalent to those conducted at a university, wherein we test for the possible causes of your pet’s allergic reactions. We provide elimination testing to avoid using steroidal allergy medications to blast the symptoms without identifying the cause. Your pet’s comfort is important to us, but their safety is as well!
